simplyaskit meets Finance Broker Kathleen McCormick from Unley South Australia
How long have you been a finance broker?
I have been working with the finance sector since 2005 and I made the transition to the finance broking in 2014.
Where is your business located?
I work for Search Mortgages and we are located at 105 Greenhill Road in Unley, South Australia
What do you love about being a finance broker?
I love the opportunity of being able to form a close partnership with my clients, their families and sometimes even their pets, it makes the job pretty great. Knowing you can also make a positive difference to people’s lives is certainly a great feeling.
Is there a particular type of finance you specialise in?
I prefer to specialise in finance that can be really life-changing for clients which is different to looking at specialising in a particular area. This has meant that I work quite closely with clients who do not always feel that they represent the ideal borrower due to personal circumstances, such as separating from a partner or a business venture that has not gone as planned. I feel that there is a large portion of clients who feel they can’t or won’t be heard by the lenders (and aren’t always given other opportunities) and for myself it is important to be able to provide the support and guidance they need.
What’s the best advice you would give to first home buyers?
Read as much as you can and don’t be afraid of asking lots of questions.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
It’s not a piece of advice but a quote from Robert Browning: ‘Ah but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, or what’s a heaven for?’
I take this as we should always continue to strive for more and never limit ourselves or else we can miss out on things we haven’t imagined.
Favourite hobbies?
I enjoy watching the Formula 1 and always try to get to Melbourne to watch the race live. I have also recently taught myself how to crochet, so at the moment I have embarked on making my first blanket.
How are you involved in the local community?
In the local community, I certainly try and support the local business and promote them through social media. I also refer my clients to other small business who I have been able to work with in the past to help grow a positive network. I am also a member of Spence Club which is a networking group for high-achieving young women and we aim to have fundraising events to be able to support important community groups, previously this has included groups like White Ribbon and the Headspace.
