How long have you been a finance broker and where is your business located?

I commenced my booking business in October 1995 after 25 years in the finance industry working for different Banks, Building Societies, and a Credit Union. My office is located in Railway Street, Baulkham Hills next door to the library.

What do you love about being a finance broker?

There is no denying that I get a real buzz helping people to achieve their home ownership dreams, as well as helping investors create wealth through property acquisition.

Is there a particular type of finance you specialise in?

With the experience I have, I am able to help just about anyone from First home buyers, to upgraders, downsizers, business people and people who have a poor credit history.

What is the property market like in your region? 

The Hills District of Sydney has been particularly strong over the last couple of years. This coupled with the massive development occurring along the Norwest corridor (including the new rail link) is fuelling strong growth in the region.

Are there any particular suburbs or property types you feel represent growth opportunities in your region?

SD: People are particularly interested in securing property near the new rail link stations. Property in and around the New Rouse Hill is proving very popular.

What’s the one aspect of a loan all borrowers should be aware of?

You have to pay it all back. It is a very long term commitment so using a mortgage broker to assist at the start is, without doubt, the best option.

What are your favourite hobbies?

SD: I enjoy tenpin bowling as a sport, and for relaxation I have a growing Bonsai collection.

How are you involved in the local community?

My motto is “Non nobis solum nati sumus” which roughly translates to “Not unto ourselves alone were we born”.

I am a great believer in giving back to not only my community but also to the mortgage broking industry.

Currently, I am the Treasurer for the local Rotary Club, plus I am on the steering committee for a not-for-profit finance broker group that provides education and guidance to other finance brokers. These positions are honorary in nature.
