simplyaskit meets investment property advisor Mireille Salloum from Parramatta
How do you best describe your business interests?
Personally, my interests are very much aligned with my business interests (I do what I do because I love it so you will see it stem across every part of my life). I love entrepreneurship and personal development, birthing ideas, fostering their growth and problem-solving. I love working on ideas which help people’s personal development and systemising them. I love reading about personal discipline and understanding how to better the world starting with one self. I love people, from my family and friends to the networks who give me the privilege and trust of glimpsing their lives and achievements. I love educating people, any trick or trade I learn I instantly want to share it.
What services do you provide?
We are an investment property advisory firm delivering quality direct property solutions for the clients of financial planners.
What is the name of the business?
Examine Property
Where is the business located?
Ground Floor, 11-13 Aird Street, Parramatta
How do you describe your value proposition, your point of difference?
Real Estate can be such a lucrative industry full of wolves – it can be difficult to pick the sheep. At Examine Property, we work with the clients of financial planners, so it’s important that we select the right investment properties to ensure both the client and planners goals are met and exceeded. We have a stringent research backed methodology for selection of investment properties backed by all the growth drivers. We take a top down approach assessing the macro 18-year property cycle in Australia, then by state and capital city, then drill down to the suburb, the demographic, the infrastructure, the property, valuations, floor plans, right down to the finishings. We are independent, non-aligned and we are true to our methodology, ethical in our practice and relationship focussed so this does not end when the job is done. We maintain support and rapport long after settlement.
What role does communication play in helping you operate a successful business?
It is vital, communication is part of every step from initial touch points to rapport building, consultation, follow up, support, feedback. We are a service based business completely reliant on relationships and of course, communication is the back bone of any successful relationship. The same principals are at play within our team which is why we are a tight knit unit.
You’re also a branch director of Business in Heels, can you tell us more about the community?
Business in Heels is both a national and international community of 70,000+ like minded women creating supportive networking environments (BIH physically and digitally) for female entrepreneurs to foster and grow mutually beneficial relationships and grow their businesses. I look after the Sydney CBD and Eastern Suburbs branches facilitating events, relationships, introductions and support for my member’s businesses.
How important is it for people in business to be part of a networking and support group?
I think no matter what type of business you run you are bound to rely on relationships and a support network. Whether that’s a cheer squad of motivators, mentors or accountability coaches, or your services that back the business all the way through to supplier relationships. Networking helps grow this pool of relationships and has a viral effect way beyond that. Each relationship you foster is a person with a whole network of connections. Your access to great networks grows immensely not to mention a personal introduction is the warmest kind!
What level of support do you offer and how important is it for people to be able to enjoy the work?
At Examine Property, our support goes above and beyond reproach, because our relationships deserve it. These relationships grow as a result of the support we provide financial planners in bettering their businesses and value proposition, through to the education and support we provide their clients throughout and beyond our business interactions. It is not uncommon to receive a call two years later from one of our clients to enlist our help problem solving and issue (which may be above and beyond our superficial service offering) but we do it because our relationship is key. This is also the case with our internal team, whether they need further development, need help problem solving and issue or need personal support beyond work life, we provide it because again, our relationships are key to our success.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in business?
That relationships are the core of any good business that has any hope of longevity. From clients, staff, referrers or suppliers, even the courier – when people like and respect you, when they believe in you, your purpose and your ethical nature, they will stick with you, refer you and shout your name from the rooftops. But relationships are two-way streets – you must deliver, foster and grow them, bring value to them and those that last need to built on like mindedness, similar goals, and ethics and mutualism.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
I have two that are equally strong.
- That actions speak louder than words. This comes from being every bit of the person you say you are in everything you do each day, to doing everything you say you’ll do.
- This comes from the serenity prayer – we must learn to accept the things we cannot change, change what we have the power to and be wise enough to understand what we have power over and what we don’t.
What are your favourite hobbies?
I love swimming, riding motorbikes, sky diving, bungee jumping, spending quality time with family and friends and of course, food!
