How do I choose the right Adviser?
Ronald Pratap | February 12, 2018
There has been a lot going on in the Financial Planning industry at the moment with Legislative changes, investigations and compensation claims.
What you don’t hear about is the great work Financial Advisers are doing for thousands of Australians by helping to secure their financial future.
The whole reason I became a Financial Adviser was to help others reach their financial goals as well as be successful in my own career path which only work hand in hand as the more clients I help to achieve financial security and ‘peace of mind’ then the more inclined they are to refer me to their friends and family. This benefits us all and I think this would also be the case for the good majority of Advisers out there. I ensure I do the best for my clients and this is cemented in the fact that I have clients all around Sydney including Oran Park, Parramatta, Blacktown, North Shore, Campbelltown as well as interstate.
If you are going to go down the path of seeking Financial Advice then there are a few things to look for in a Financial Planner including:
The person holds proper qualifications to provide Advice and is authorised to do so which does not include an Accountant or Mortgage broker.
Someone that seems genuinely interested in your goals and objectives and not so much about what product is best for you.
Is upfront about any fees or commissions to be charged.
You get along with them as relationships tend to be for the long term and you want someone that you are comfortable with in asking questions and expressing any concerns.
They have clients that are in a similar situation as your own.
They are not pushy however clearly articulate concerns or issues they feel are important to address.
They take the time to understand what is truly important to you and show where they can add value.
There are advisers that have been around a lot longer than myself and have seen a lot more than me although I truly believe if your adviser has the above qualities then you should be in good hands.
