Broken Clock?
Paul Davies | March 31, 2017
There is a saying that 'even a broken clock is right twice a day'. It's not right on purpose, but it's still right.
Buying life insurance and income protection from a direct insurer is like a broken clock. They are right, but it depends at what time of your life you are buying it.
Direct insurers and industry funds offer a very templated approach to giving you the cover you need. Whilst I don't believe there is any intention to mislead you, they are only limited in how they can give you the informatiojn you need because they are not allowed to give you 'personal advice'. They only offer 'General Advice'.
What's the difference?
Everyone is different, and you've heard the disclaimers on radio explaining 'we do not take into account your personal needs and objectives, etc, etc....'. This is because it is General Advice and it is meant to cover everyone.
But you are not the same as your neighbour or collegue, and need someone to at least give you an idea of what you should be considering, then you can make your own mind up. It's called an 'Educated decision' through Personal Advice, becuse it is tailored to you and what you actually need.
So, don't work with a broken clock. Speak to a broker who specialises in this area and they will give you the right time of day.
