Q: My uncle lives in my grandparents house which was left 50/50 to him and my Mum when my grandparents passed - my Mum and Dads pensions are being reduced each time Centrelink review their assets as the value of the property has increased - My parents are in their late 70s and my uncle who has never moved out of home and is single has no idea of the impact to my parents. Is there any way that my parents can pass their share of the property over to us while they are alive so that they can manage ?
A: Thank you Ronald - as I feared this is an awful situation for my parents - My Uncle doesn't communicate terribly well and in polite terms is a little slower than normal - I have discussed with my siblings the option of discussing selling the property howerver I fear this would be too much for him - I don't think that he would comprehend the option of paying rent to Mum as he sees the house as his and doesn't appear to realize the impact that the property value has in every day terms for them - I don't see any real options at this stage and will have to keep monitoring my parents situation and discuss our helping them where we can moving forward. Thank you again for your insights and I will keep your contact details for future reference.
Cheers Narelle
