Welcome, Tim,
What is your occupation and what services do you provide?
Mortgage Broker
Name of Business?
Where is the business located?
North Sydney, New South Wales
How long have you been in the finance industry?
Since 2008
Is there any particular part of the finance industry you specialise in?
Put simply, we assist those who want to grow their wealth through property investment.
When it comes to being a wealth creator, our experience is that those that do, like to push the boundaries. And when you push the boundaries, there is generally a financial hurdle that needs to be overcome.
Our offering specialises in identifying that hurdle and solving it for our clients in the quickest and most stress-free way possible.
What do you do for your customers that sets you apart from other brokers?
In this tough regulatory environment, what we have seen is an emergence of smaller funders who can do things that the big 4 can't. Whilst we still deal with the major banks on a daily basis, we have also aligned ourselves with lenders who have a niche offering we know the majors can't solve.
Bottom line, we'll either get our clients the best finance solution or we'll tell them why now is not the right time and provide a game plan for them on what they need to do in order to achieve their goal.
What role does communication play in helping you operate a successful business?
Whether we are dealing with a trusted referral partner, a bank BDM or one of our clients, we always focus on communicating in a timely, open and approachable manner.
In the finance industry, people are putting their faith in you to provide a solution for them that is going to cost them thousands of dollars so it’s very important that they have complete trust in you.
As Zig Ziglar once said, “If people like you, they’ll listen to you, but if they trust you, they’ll do business with you.”
What would you say to first home buyers who are struggling to get into the property market?
Think laterally. Especially in my area (the lower North Shore of Sydney), the market has moved so much so that buying in areas you want to live is unattainable. However, the Australian property market is not just Sydney, there are many fantastic locations at much lower price points for first home buyers to consider. The term ‘rentvestor’ has emerged off the back of this recent boom and I think has a lot of merit behind it. I’ve written an article that goes into this further that you can find here.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in business?
Winston Churchill
“Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.”
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
Reading Bob Burg’s book The Go-Giver was a real eye-opener for me. What always stuck with me from that book was the quote, “Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.” This comes from the age-old law of reciprocity, meaning what you give out to the world, you will get back at some point. For my business, I know that if I am doing the right things, consistently enough, success will follow.
What are your favourite hobbies?
1. Playing non-stop with my two-year-old daughter after work and on the weekends.
2. Keeping fit through CrossFit
3. Listening to podcasts. Whether its business, sport or comedy, I think they’re great ways to relax or have in the background when you’re driving or doing chores around the house.
