Can I claim a tax rebate for accommodation for work away from home. I have a temporary contact in another town 2 hours from my home which I am paying mortgage for and also paying rent where my work is?

Hi Patto,
A portion of your rent expense is tax deductible according to the percentage to which it is directly related to earning income. You can also claim some meals and other incidentals as well. If you are self employed, the rules are slightly different to PAYG. This is definitely something that you need to discuss with a good tax accountant before the contract starts so that you know what can be claimed and what records need to be kept.
Cheers
Scott
